About Harris Academy

Harris Academy is a learning community serving Grades 4–8 in Gilbert, Arizona. Through personalized, mastery-based learning, meaningful work, and strong relationships, learners develop confidence, responsibility, and independence. Our four-day schedule and homework-free evenings create space for both academic growth and family life.

Our Approach

Mixed-Age Learning

Students learn within a multi-age community where mentorship, leadership, and belonging naturally develop. Younger learners gain role models, while older learners strengthen confidence and understanding by helping others.

Independence with Accountability

Our lifeblood is the balance of structure and freedom. Learners develop responsibility within a balance of freedom and structure, setting goals and managing their time with support from their Guide.

Meaningful Work

Students engage in purposeful learning that builds skills, confidence, responsibility, and ownership over time.

Personalized Mastery

Learners work at an appropriate level and pace, building confidence through meaningful progress, reflection, and mastery. Rather than comparing students to one another, we focus on helping each learner make progress and develop confidence in their abilities.

Program Highlights

Personalized Mastery

Students progress through Math and Language Arts at an appropriate pace, building strong foundations through goal setting, practice, and mastery.

Spanish Instruction

Learners build Spanish language skills through an interactive curriculum focused on vocabulary, listening, pronunciation, conversation, and exposure to Spanish-speaking cultures.

Read-Alouds & Socratic Discussions

Students engage with great books and meaningful questions that strengthen comprehension, communication, and critical thinking.

Science, History & Exploration

Learners investigate ideas through experiments, discussions, projects, presentations, and hands-on learning experiences.

Applied Learning Experiences

Programs such as Future City, JA BizTown, Finance Park, TedEd Student Talks, and other enrichment opportunities allow students to apply their learning in authentic and engaging ways.

Homework-Free Evenings

We believe children need time for family, hobbies, rest, and exploration. Most academic work is completed during the school day.
